About Me

dani - orton retouchHi, I’m Dani! I’m a wife, mama and published author from the great flat state of Kansas. I’d rather have a steamy mug of coffee than the most expensive glass of wine and I have a sugar wafer addiction I really must get control of.

After spending more than a decade as a freelance writer I’m slowly learning how to work in the real world again. Mostly that means I have to wear pants. Currently, I’m a Content Writer and multi-tasking fiend at Lee Media Group where I sling words like hash browns on a griddle. Mmmm. . . hash browns. I still find myself seeking out the occasional freelance writing and editing assignment because I’m a word nerd.

My first published short story, No Place Like Home appears in the winter anthology, Sleigh Ride. Weee!

My second published story and debut novelette, Next Left is currently available through AmazonYou can read a free snippet of this “rom-com with sass,” HERE!

My short story, Irish Angels in New York can be found in the 2015 Chicken Soup for the Soul: Hope and Miracles edition

My essay, Mama Knows was featured in the 2013 production of Listen To Your Mother. You can see the video HERE. The essay was based on my daughter’s battle with a rare brain disorder, Vein of Galen Malformation. I continue to raise awareness for this still relatively unknown condition.

When I’m not writing for work or world peace, I’m embarrassing my husband of 18+ years and two children by sharing our personal lives on social media.
